Well, there’s no denying this challenge has run its course. I’m starving, I’m frustrated, and I’m getting very tired of sticking to the same protein-heavy food. (Today, it has been hard boiled eggs (.65) cheese (.30) , a banana (.29) and some milk (.25). (I ate all my peanut butter yesterday). I’ve mentioned before that in addition to being a writer, I teach yoga, cycling and I’m a runner training for a marathon. Though I lucked out today because I don’t have any classes to teach, I’m also annoyed at the trickle-down effect this challenge has brought: I really don’t have the energy to take on my scheduled run of an easy 3.5 miles. It will have to wait until tomorrow when I can eat with wreckless abandon, because for now, I’m all tapped out.
But, as this week has shown, there’s another lesson to be learned in all this: There is no “five day” deadline for alot of people. This is the reality all day, every day. So, while I’m looking forward to going out to dinner tomorrow night, enjoying a nice of glass of wine and ending the madness once and for all, an estimated 1.4 billion people living right here in our country will keep right on rationing their peanut butter and cheese, and struggling to even get a vegetable or fruit into their kids. Not because their kids give an (I don’t like that, like my son), but because literally, they can’t afford it.
